I got a copy of my report from Equifax and noticed all the previous addresses including 6 variations of one address. They also had my name mangled in every possible fashion and listed employers that I never worked for.

So I sent them a letter showing how to spell my name, my correct addresses and employers for the last 5 years. Today I get their response:

EQUIFAX DOES NOT ADD/UPDATE EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION TO THE CREDIT FILE. ALL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION HAS BEEN DELETED.

Now as far as I know, when you apply for credit they take your employment info from the application so this shouldn't be a big deal right?

Same response on the same kind of problem with Equifax. What gets me is that if they are going to report it, then they darn well better report it correctly. UGH!

It's still wrong today! And, I've been employed by another employer for 4 years! And, I have received new credit so it could have been updated. Go figure!

Jonesing, I went through something similar with Equifax back in December. They listed my first ever emloyer from 10 years ago, and an employer that I left four years ago. They also had my address and name spelled incorrectly.

I sent them a letter detailing where I had worked for the last five years, as well as a copy of my drivers license, highlighting the correct spelling of my name and accurate address.

They fixed it within three weeks. However, at last check, the address is again wrong, and my first employer is back on.

    Go figure.

ONE OF YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANIES PROBABLY DID IT AND RE-DID IT.

MY ADDRESS IS 3804 XXXXXX ST

FLEET REPORTED IT AS 1804 XXXXXX ST

    THAT NUMBER DOES NOT EXIST.

THE REASON I KNOW THEY DID IT, IS I GOT NO BILLS FOR TWO MONTHS (LUCKLY THEY HAVE ON-LINE BILLING).

    George..bet you are right!

My daughter has, um, 18 name versions reported..18!!!????

Ok, she did get married...and she has an unusual name in that it is a male-sounding name and she's (obviously) a female..
    but, geez......

Now, what is amazing is that they compiled these mistakes in 3 years as she's only 21...

    Poor kid....its ridiculous..and she's only used 2 names..maiden and married.

Her name sounds like her fathers...so she gets his credit..I get his wife's credit...ain't life grand?

George - similar thing happened to me years ago. My car loan bank called me at work wondering why I didn't sign for the certified letter they sent me. I said I never got a notice and the rep rattles off this address that wasn't mine! I told him it was wrong and then he says they sent the letter to my "old" (the correct) address but it was sent back with the yellow sticky from the post office with the "new" (incorrect) address!

It turns out that the change of address stickers are automatically printed at some sorting center. They are coded based on the first 3 or 4 letters of your last name, the last 3 digits of your street number and your zip code. So if FRED FLINTSONE at 1123 WINDCREST WAY ZIP 92388 files a "family" change of address (which means everyone at that location with the same last name) then the "ID tag" for this is FLIN12392388. So it is possible (what happened to me) that MARTIN FLINTLOCK at 8123 GREENBELT DR ZIP 92388 would suddenly discover some of his mail not arriving.

It took me about 3 weeks of hounding my local, regional and "new" postmasters to fix the problem.

I dont know if they are even allowed to report salary or income information. I believe that each state has particular disclosure laws concerning this. Then again it could be that they are just trying to report accurate information only and if they report what we put down on credit card applications then we know that could not possibly be accurate:) lol

I received the same thing from Equifax. They were very gracious about deleting the incorrect addresses and employer from my record. Trans Union, however, is another story. They have listed mangled addresses from the last 20 years. I have seemingly lived everywhere except Gilligans Island. I am in the process of asking them to remove the erroneous entries.

Btw, Mary Ann says hi :)

    Folks:

Once you receive your credit reports, you can contact all 3 agencies via phone and have previous addresses and employers deleted. You will need to have your report file number ready.

Also, be polite (ugh!) and play DUMB (i.e. I don't recall living there...I've never been to that state...I've never heard of that company...Are mistakes reported like this often...? You get the idea!
