Ok, Equifax sent me an updated copy of report, listing 2 accounts as verified (they looked like duplicates but were corrected to show the original debt was paid off by the CA and the CA I still owe money to).... They ignored the 2 accounts I disputed as "not mine"...

One is United Credit National Bank and the second is a CA that supposedly bought this account. (UCNB is a scam and they are out of business -most of their accounts transferred to Household -- "My" account is listed as Date opened 5/98 and date of last activity 6/98 with 60, 90, 120+ past due.. I cancelled this card over the phone way back in 1998 and sent them their stupid credit kit back....) Anyway, what should I do next? Should I pretend that I never asked for an investigation for these items, ot should I tell them that they violated my rights and demand that they let me know in 15 days the outcome? It's obvious that they chose the easiest accounts to verify and ignored the two that aren't verifiable....

What my question is, is should I just plod along and ask for one at a time or should I step up a notch and start demanding that they investigate ALL items included in my letter? I don't want to be seen as frivolous :)

    Melissa,

I think you should send the CRA a procedure request demanding to know how the account was verified. This is your right. Since you said the original creditor is out of business chances are they never verified the account, By submiting a procedure request they may be forced to start a reinvestigation earning you a deletion if the can not verify. The creditor being out of business even if the account was transferred creates a situation where you are highly likely to get a deletion.

    Good Luck

Call Genesis Financial Solutions and tell them it's not your account. i don't have their number handy but I might be able to find it for you. Genesis handles all UCNB accounts that were charged-off or not good enough for Household.
