Hello all, Just got off the phone with Equifax. I was informed that they no longer will call a creditor to verify the validity of information. This of course after requesting that I give the phone information with Ford Credit last month. The policy change was made in July (supervisor would not give me a date). Has anybody else this crap. Mike G.
No, but I've generally been confused about Equifax. When I talked to them the other day, they said they didn't doing scoring. Of course, online, I can pay $12.95 to get my FICO and my credit report.
Re: Equifax no longer makes phone c Equifax is now reminding of that guy Martin Short used to play on Saturday Night Live. He used to play a character that would be interviewed by 60 minutes. He would always say "I never said that" and then they would show him the tape. The funny episode was about the doll with the switchblade. UGH, Mike G.
Re: Equifax no longer makes phone c According to FCRA, CRAs can verify consumer dispute by phone, fax, letter, or by automated verification systems. Of course they are going to use the easiest, cheapest, and less verifiable way of doing it so they can throw some of them in the trash. FCRA needs another amendment that includes CRAs "proving" when and how they verified.
Re: Equifax no longer makes phone c Hey MikeB, Where can I find that information regarding verifying over the phone. How could they implement a policy that is directly opposite of the FCRA. Mike G.
Re: Equifax no longer makes phone c MikeG, I just disputed a "lost or stolen card" over the telephone this morning. The rep was very polite and gave me a confirmation number. Then she gave me erroneous information. She said that my dispute will take 15 to 30 days to resolve. She was supposed to say 30 days. Last month a rep told me that consumers cannot dispute on-line when I called to dispute an address. Another falsehood. BTW - the address was removed within 10 days. The reps don't know what they are talking about. You should just call back and act like the first call never happened.
Re: Equifax no longer makes phone c MikeG, I went back to FCRA at http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra.htm . but I didn't see mention of anything in FCRA stating how CRAs must verify such as by phone, mail, etc. It does mention automated verification systems in section 611 (a)5(D). It basically says "contact" which implies the CRA can verify anyway they like. They should have to document who "verfied" the information at the creditor, but FCRA does not stipulate this anywhere. In other words, it's hard to prove they didn't verify unless they give you a disconnected number, and you can document the lie. But again, FTC will just slap them on the wrist for it.
Re: Equifax no longer makes phone c Hey Jim, I was referring to Equifax no longer calling creditors to verify information. Last month they asked me to provide them with a phone mumber and person to speak with at Ford Motor Credit. This month they stated that they no longer make phone calls to creditors to verify information. This new policy was implemented last month. Very coincidental if you ask me. Mike G.
