I have been reading this board now for a few months and have found some really good info. This is my first post here. I think I have a split file with equifax and don't know what to do. There is an account that I disputed on my my credit report with them. I am 100% sure it isn't mine and I was never an AU for anyone. I got a letter from Equifax a week ago saying that the account I am disputing isn't reporting on my credit report and the report they sent with it was correct and didn't list the account. Yesterday I get a letter from equifax again and it said that speal about how an account can be reported for 7-10 years and the account I was disputing remains. This letter included a copy of my credit report and the ONLY thing listed on this credit report is the account I am disputing. There was NOTHING else on this report. They also had my DOB wrong on this one. Now Privacy guard is listing the CR that only has the disputed account on it. When I pull my report directly from equifax, I get the correct report without the disputed account on it. I don't know what to do now. (sorry this is so long)
For now, ignore PG. The report that matters is FICO. Pull your EQ FICO report for FREE using this link: http://www.yourcreditcounts.com/cred/yccc_index.jsp Answer the questions, then enter any old bogus info. Use a bogus email, they check for dupes. You then get linked to EQ's site, so if you have an account already w/them sign in. If you don't, create one and you'll get your FICO score for free. See what's listed there. I've seen some weird stuff between these three. For example, EQ was listing two old inquiries, PG was listing them and the EQ FICO did not. Good for the score, I won't complain. Certain accounts of mine list as open on PG when I know they're closed, sometimes list open on EQ and list closed (correct) on EQ FICO.
I would call EQ and get a live cs rep and ask him/her to explain the situation. I'm assuming that there is a file# attached to each report. Check each report that you have and see if the SS#, spelling of name and other personal data are matching. The different DOB maybe a clue or factor. Is your 'correct' file have a huge amout of TLs and inquiries that can cause a split file. Whatever the reason your going to have figure this out and I think the answer maybe in those two reports. Please keep us posted. Best regards, Mirage
Wow, I went to the posted link, answered the questions and got my free FICO Score. Unfortunately, it has dropped 60 dayum points in a month and I can't figure out why. Sent a dispute to Equifax, they received 12/3/03, but none of the accounts are showing as disputed...hmmmm Thanks for the link! Shorty
