Kind of interesting... I sent a dispute to Equifax and they received it a couple of weeks ago. Green card came back to me in short order. Now, this week, I get the BS "verify info" letter in the mail. You know, "We need to verify your identity so please send a copy or your driver's license, utility bill, yada, yada, yada." The interesting thing is that the letter said that I had to resubmit my dispute with them once I supplied the requested info. BUT... I just checked my report and the item is listed as "consumer disputes - under investigation". So evidently they accepted my dispute. What I'm wondering is: Since the 30 days are up in about a week, maybe I should just let this go, wait out the 30 days, and if it is not verified then lean on them. Tell them I didn't get their request for personal info and, regardless, they listed it as under dispute so evidently they didn't need this info to modify my credit report. Any ideas? JP
JP, I personally wound not respond to that letter, especially since the items are being investigated. I received a letter from them also when I sent in my first dispute. Not the same as yours, but asking for further information on some of the items I was disputing. I didn't respond with more information (how could I provide more info if I am stating they aren't mine?!). Anyway, they didn't investigate them, but I disputed them a second time and they were investigated without a request for more info.
THEY GET "EXTRA" TIME IF YOU RESPOND!!!! So DON'T respond... IT IS JUST A GAME THAT THEY PLAY!!! 70% OF CREDIT REPORTS HAVE ONE OR MORE ERRORS!!! But YOU need to VERIFY who you are???? I DON'T THINK SO!!!
OK. Very interesting. And I think I agree with both of you! So what do you think? Wait the 30 days and if it still shows as "under investigation" then fax them a letter on day 31 demanding deletion? This is my last neg TL on EQ. Would love to see this go away! JP
Did you request a credit report with your dispute? I have always received an updated credit report after my disputes. Or are you able to check the status online? I would wait it out for a week after the 30 days are up to see where it stands - give them time to send a new credit report - then I would demand deletion if it hasn't been verified at that point.
Hi you guy's. Welcome to the board. Here's your rule of thumb. They need 4 items of info. to retreive your report. Fulle name Address SSN DOB. If you sent that info. they need nothing more. I always suggest taking your dispute letter to your bank and have it notarized, thus proving it's you. They can't [and don't] blow you off that way. Also, from the expiration of the first 30 days they have 5 business days to mail your response. Allowing for mail time I advocate waiting 40 days from the day they get your dispute before you call and raise hell. HTH.
