Hello All, Here is a bit of information that you guys should be aware of. In an emergency room, for treatment, there is not a requirement for Identification. This means that a person can walk into an emergency room, give a name and a bogus social security number. This means that this can be a very prevalent means of instigating fraud. I am not speaking out of my arse, I witnessed this at Kaiser Permanente in California. The person who did this was complaining of heart troubles and was not a member. They, Kaiser, had to provide treatment. The person did not have an ID or anything.
Hmmmm....The local ER here always made copies of both my insurance card and drivers license. I wonder if this is controlled by whatever the hospital policy is. I was always told it is to verify that someone isn't receiving care under another persons insurance. I bet this does happen a lot though
There is alot of instances of an er not requiring id. I mean something like, you fall and get a concussion, get rushed to the hospital, well, you can't produce an id bc you are unconsious or something, they are not going to turn you away. It would be very easy to go into an er and claim not to have you're id I guess, I mean a state funded hospital cannot refuse medical treatment, and people don't usually anticipate an emergency so they may not have their id on them, I know I for one rarely carry id. I do not carry a purse so I do not carry my id unless I anticipate needing it, fortunately, I live in a state that if you are pulled over you can simply give you're social and they will run that so I do not have to carry my license.
