Can you send an Estoppel letter to credit bureau? Will this work? I need to remove paid charge offs from CRA records.
Moya, the "Estoppel" letter you'll see referenced on this board and others is really a follow-up to the "Validation" letter -- both have to do with challenging the validity of allegedly unpaid debts being collected by third-party collection agencies. Since you're trying to remove a paid charge-off, that's not the strategy to use. Rather, I recommend the "Nutcase" series of letters which are intended for fully paid debts with really bad tradelines. In the Unofficial Creditnet FAQ (maintained by Nave here), you will see links to the letter as well as to the rationale -- a must-read how-to -- and to many testimonials. There are other great techniques for addressing paid charge-offs; if you'll search the board for "Dancerat" you'll find examples of her great work on the topic (example letter Bugman used when adapting Dancerat's approach). Finally if you hunt around (here, lol) you can peruse Bill Bauer's "Knockout Letter for Paid Chargeoffs" -- that is another good approach with a proven track record. Hope this helps you! Read the board some more. (Don't you hate homework!?) Doc
