Got a green card right after college and messed it up. let a 1700 balance go delinquent. Eventually lump sum settled it a year later for 50%. Now, I know my current credit score w/a 2 year old BK won't let me get Amex... but my business partner will give me an authorized card. The form says "noone w/delinquent history w/Amex". I've heard their internal blacklist never goes away even though the trade line is nowhere on my reports. I'd applied for an authorized user card w/a previous company (pre BK) 3 years ago and was turned down b/c of my bad history w/Amex. Is there anything I can do???

George A question for you? or anyone for that matter. I retired my AMEX gold card in 1995. My credit was excellent. In 1998, I included a $15K credit card debt to Optima in my BK. Do you think I am on the AMEX @#$%list for ever? I do.

Marie - Here is the DEAL: Call 18883340400 - talk to an Acct Mgr about immediately paying off the bad debt. They will not charge interest. They will not guarantee you a card. AFTER you pay if off - tell the ACCT MGR the check will be sent on X date.... then, explain you want to start a new AMEX relationship. They should trust you with a Green Card. My situation was identical to yours. My Chap 13 was in 1996 - due to significant illness. WHEN I discussed the reason for the Chap 13, they offered me another chance and issues a Green Card. I charge $2k monthly now without ever a question. It worked for me - BUT - you GOTTA PAY THEM. FYI - American Express was not a creditor in my Chap 13. They were not even showing on any reports - but their internal records flag all bad ss#s - FOREVER. cya Dogman

Do so before you negotiate - this may give you stronger leverage, since the account managers at the bank have a dual role: Serving as CS reps for bank account holders, and as Credit Department officers for Amex card holders. Saar - I Forgot to Mention AME Saar - I had opened an AMEX Membership Banking account - snvgs/chkng/ - B4 repaying the old debt and applying for the new card. I have a consultation, finally, with AMEX Brokerage. I believe I will let them manage a part of my income. I also got the travel bag you snapped by signing up for the travel protection. That was a $9.00 no brainer - all my airtravel is charged to my company Citibank. I use AMEXOL.net I will use The Card wherever I need it in Hawaii next week. (OK - FYI - I cashed in United miles for the free FIRST CLASS - 60K miles - RT ticket SF to Honolulu. One week exploring Hilton Hawaiian Village's new Lagoon Tower condos on Waikiki. I go to Hawaii a couple times a yr - $300 RT from SF. I always stay at Hilton in Honolulu. They are giving me their 2 bdrn full condo, 2 jacuzzi baths, maid service, room service, 2 lanais, living room, DR, kitchen - dead on Waikiki oceanfront. These Lagoon Tower rooms opened 3 weeks ago. The rack rate is $440 for a one bedrm garden view. Check the web@www.hilton.com. Hilton points, and $900 gave me 5 nights. I am ready for that Aloha thing! CYA Dogman
Can this put AMEX back on repo I settled Amex back in 1995 and got it off my report in late 1995 (disputed, not verified w/CRAs). Any chance an Amex mgr will see this is not currently still showing and rereport it? I could wait until the end of this year to do this... Don't want to wake sleeping dogs
BEST $850 You EVER SPENT Marie - just like yourself - when I had AMEX in college I stiffed them due to stupidity. People do not - or do - realize the doors an AMEX Card on your report OPENS IMMEDIATELY. As soon as I received the Card, I called my dog MC and Visa companies, told AMEX approved me - and that they better cut my rate immediately or I was gone. Everyone did it. CYA- Dogman
RE: Can this put AMEX back on Nope - and I know what they do. They show my 1977 Amex Green Card as paid and closed. They show my 2000 Amex Green Card new - new account number - fresh acct date. They show two satisfactory AMEX accounts. A rep told me exactly what she was seeing. The Card is good for 3 yrs - til 07/03 in my case. Pay it and you'll probably have a new Card within a couple three weeks.
More specifics ok, just looked at their website. I'll open chkg/savings. How long should I wait after that to offer to pay the rest on my old account? I'm guessing there's no chance they'll try to offset the old debt w/ the new bank accounts since legally the old account is history. Then, how long should I wait after paying the old account to ask for a new one? Unclear as to when to talk to the acct mgr... funny thing is, I purposefully tried to pay Amex in the hopes of eventually getting one again so I paid them a year before filing the bk. OH,(I have a 12/98 discharded BK7) on my public records, and 3 sallie mae 90 day once late (also in mid 98). 7 open trade lines since Bk all perfect (900-5600 lines). With my current credit history I wouldn't think they'd open an account for me... and it'd surprise me even more if they did it after I did a 50% settlement with them... this is getting interesting!!!

Marie, unfortunately, you will not be approved for an Amex card at this time. Let Junum work on your credit files. In 12-18 months, with Junum's help, all creditors - including Amex - will sing a different tune. Good luck! Saar

Then I called the 18800thecard-got transferred to an acct mgr - who told me balance due,-then tell her you would like to send it then,....and.....now.....what can I do to obtain a new Card acct and a fresh start to get back with AMEX? Tell them you will use AMEXZ Brokerage in the future, etc. Show your potential and that you expect them to meet you have way. Go do it. Dog
