I got a closed Macys charge card which I have no knowlegde of in my CR. Anyway, itâ??s already closed, last activitiy date was 04/95 and pay as agree, so I did not bother to dispute it. Today, I was notified by Credit Watch that I have a new tradeline. I immediately logged in creditwatch and checked it. I was shocked to learn that Equifax just changed the Macyâ??s account from "pay as agree" to "close by credit grantor"â?¦?!? Would someone please tell me what is going on? Thanks!

Sure, if you have no knowledge of this account (ie it is not yours) then stop waisting time and dispute it as not yours!

The same thing happened to me but I did have a Macys card at one time.

Both Experian and Equifax are reporting to different Macy accounts:

    Equifax:

    Macy's East/FDSNB
    date opened: 01/1991
    last activity: 03/1995
    paid as agreed

    Macy's East/Gecccc
    date opened: 01/1989
    last activity: 08/1997
    paid as agreed
    account closed by consumer

    Experian:

    Macy's East/FDSB
    date opened: 12/1990
    reported since: 05/1994
    date of status: 05/1999
    last reported: 03/2003
    closed/never late
    account closed by credit grantor

    Macy's/GCCCC
    date opened: 01/1989
    reported since: 04/1994
    date of status: 11/1997
    last reported: 11/1997
    paid/never late
    account closed at consumers request

Now on both reports, my account number that I had with Macys matches the Macys/GCCCC...the other account number I dont recognize at all. I even have my letter I received back frrom Macys stating that the account was closed back in 1997.

They are both good TL's on both reports so I was going to leave them alone but now I dont know what to do!

    to CK70:

Perhaps you lost your Macy's card and asked for a replacement? Or Macy's replaced the original card after its expiry date with another card bearing a different number? And reports the first card as "closed by credit grantor"?

I too held a Macy's card back in 1995, which shows up on my EQ and EX reports as duplicates. I disputed the "closed by credit grantor" status as "closed by consumer" back then, and EQ complied without too much fuss.

Did the same thing with EX, but came back with "This item was verified on 1/1999 and remains" without any change in the status. :(

Why should they still update the old account which is like 8 years old (last activity date was 5/95). Should it be deletes after 7 years?

Oops, I don't mean to convey the wrong impression.

I *OPENED* this store card in 1995, but held it until 1997. It was a good tradeline, never late, but reported twice on the credit reports.

Took a look at the credit report in Jan 1999, and disputed the status, and the results were as above. And at the end of the investigation then, EX added a statement "This item was verified on 1/1999 and remains" ... this statement lingers on my report till today.

This being a good TL, except for the slightly negative status (it has a $0 balance showing correctly), it remains on the report for 10 years ... which is 2007.

Even otherwise, credit card companies are known to report the status on the card till 3-4 years after the date of last activity.

I don't have the EX report with me now, but I don't believe last update from Macy's was beyond 1999.

    Reading your post again ...

sorry I assumed you were talking about *MY* Macy's card. Did not realize that you were talking about yours.

I doubt Macy's would send an update after 8 years! Most likely, if you have already disputed it, it's the CRAs not investigating correctly and taking it easy...

Dispute the TL as OBSOLETE as per FCRA ...

Does anyone have contact info for:

    MACY'S EAST/GECCCC ?

I guess all their cards are now issued by FDS National Bank and they have no contact info for GECCCC which is what is showing on my reports. What is interesting though is that MACY'S EAST/GECCC is updated every month on mine even though DOLA is 9/96.

    Thanks!

I am now looking at my 3/12/03 copy of my TU report and this has two accounts reported too:

    MACYE/FDSB
    Account closed by credit grantor
    updated 2/2003
    opened 01/1991
    closed 07/1996
    paid or paying as agreed
    never late

    MACYE/GECCCC
    Account closed by consumer
    updated 01/2003
    opened 01/1989
    closed 11/1997
    paid or paying as agreed
    never late

I really dont get this because I only had the Macys gold card...which is the GECCCC account. The account numbers start with different numbers too...my gold card started with a 3 and the other card I dont recognize starts with a 7...I am really confused.

I had the Macys gold card and I am looking at an old bill from 1998. I saved this bill because I closed the account in November 1997 and suddenly I received a bill dated 11/28/98 for a credit reporting service (CreditLine) that was cancelled before I cancelled the card. They were billing me for another year.

    Anyway...it says on the bill:

The creditor under this account is GE Capital Consumer Card Co.

I do have a phone number for credit card account information: 800-949-6229

I dont know if this number is still good, like I said this bill is from 1998.

I need the number of the other Macys East FDSB.

For some reason unknown to anyone, Macy's updates forever. I have not set foot in a Macy's store since the mid 1980's and Macy's still reports and even verified a dispute in my EX file. It's not derog, so I just let it slide, but I have not owed Macy's anything or even used their card since some time in the 1980's, which has to be WAY past the 7 year limit.
