I pulled my "3 reports with FICO" today to check things since I'm in the middle of underwriting for a mortgage and to my surprise I had 10 inquiries disappear! I checked exactly a month ago and there were 13 hards now only 3 of those remain. Those deleted were from 11/01 to 4/02. There were also 2 new inquiries - 1 for the mortgage and 1 from the utility company. Interestingly the EX score (649) didn't change at all even though there were 10 inquiries that fell off and two new ones. I was most interested in my EQ report since it was my middle score and it went from 3 inquiries to 5 and the score dropped from 675 to 672. As an additional data point, no inquiry or score change on the TU report. Assuming that inquiries older than 1 year don't affect scores, any speculation why the EX score stayed the same and the EQ score droped 3 points when each added 2 inquiries? All other data appears identical to the prior month pull.
It will be interesting to hear the possible explanations from those folks that spend lots of time studying these things. I would think that by using the 3 in 1 report w/FICO that the same model set would be used on each report. Maybe -10 old and +2 new inquiries are equal in the eyes of FICO?
I just got three hards removed from all three CRAs (8 months old) and my score across the board went up a whopping "0" points!
