I am having a major problem with a CA and am about at my wits end. I received a call about a past due medical account about a year ago. The account belonged to my exwife. I told the caller this and they basically told me that it would be in my best interest to go ahead and pay the account and then take the matter up with her. I of course refused. Last month, this account showed up on my credit report. I immediately sent them a CMRRR letter explaining the details again and requesting that it be corrected. They sent me a copy of the bill, listing my exwife's address, name, etc. I again sent another letter telling them they just verified what I have been telling them and to correct the problem. I have not heard anything, the listings were still on my reports as of this morning. What should I do next?
Call the billing office of the hospital and talk to them. The CA couldn't care less, but the hospital should.
If she was on your insurance policy or you were still married when the bill was incurred then this belongs on your reports as your (joint) responsibility. If you weren't married anymore and your insurance was out of the picture, she defrauded a healthcare provider by not apprising them of that fact.
Write and demand the paperwork behind this; you always sign an agreement before any medical treatment. Specifically ask for the document where you have signed as responsible party. If your ex listed you as the responsible party, then you would have to go after here for the fraud.
