Am I correct in assuming that an account which has been paid in full (settlement in 1999) and is being reported as 'legally paid in full for less than full balance' CAN NOT have a current balance history?? The OC had incorrectly reported a past due balance on all 3 CR's for almost 2 years--I finally got them to update to paid in full/settled and they deleted the current past due balance on all 3 reports. I saw a significant score increase on TU and EQ when they deleted the current past due balance, but a 50 point drop on EXP. EXP no longer shows any current past due balance, but EVERY month since May of 2001 through current, they still have a balance history showing this amount that the OC reports has been paid in full??? (coincidentally, it is exactly the same amount the OC had been reporting in error and has since deleted) I contacted the OC again and was told (not that I beleive that an OC is always honest!!!) that "that's just Experian--they have software that does 'simple math' and reports the balance that wasn't paid in the settlement......we have NOTHING to do with that....in fact, we don't ever report balance amounts on settled accounts to anyone....Exp does this on their own and I've had several consumers tell me they have this very same problem with EXP" WTF??? I'm still trying to sort this mess out. The OC is guilty of many violations, but now I'm extremely puzzled as to whether I'm going to be taking on Experian, as well. How in the heck can they report a current 'balance history' on an account which in their VERY OWN words says 'legall paid in full'??? UUUGGGGGHHHH!
Anyone else had this kind of trouble with Experian reporting balances under "balance history" when there legally is no balance due? Thanks.
