I send a letter demanding an investigation of an account to experian a couple of weeks ago. I was VERY specific in citing what was incorrect, which was the balance, account status and account remarks. I even told them what I thought the information SHOULD say, which may or may not have been a bad idea. I believe that my letter was courteous, short and to the point. Well, yesterday I got a form letter from them, stating that they could not conduct the investigation because I had not told them what information for the account was incorrect. WTH?!?!? I'm looking at my letter right now, and don't see how I could have possibly been more specific. What should I do now? Are they stalling me? It appears that they did nothing, but did they not even bother to read the letter? I'm pretty pissed off now. I sent the first letter CRRR, I'm thinking I should send another with a more strongly worded demand for update or removal, and attach my first letter and their initial response. Any other ideas? I also sent letters to the other CRAs and First USA, who is reporting this info. They have not responded yet.
I'd send it back with a copy of your original letter and state you were very specific, and you would like them to now investigate within 30 days of receiving the first letter, which is your right. Also ask them what other information they might need. Morons.
Correction: they want to know WHY it's wrong! Is it me, or is that just ludicrous? Here's the letter I recieved: Dear MY NAME, We are responding to you request to verify information appearing on your personal credit report. The item(s) listed below could not be investigated because you did not tell us specifically why the information is inaccurate. Please send us detailed reasons why the information is inaccurate, then we will be able to begin our verification process. The item(s) we were unable to verify: FIRST USA BANK ACCT ############ Sincerely, NCAC PO Box 9595 Allen, TX 75013 The more I think about it, the more I think they are just stalling. My letter was very specific as to WHAT info was wrong, but of course I didn't attempt to explain why it would have been incorrectly reported. It makes no sense to ask me WHY the info is inaccurate. I didn't report the info, how should I know why it's wrong? SO, they should still have to investigate by 30 days from the original letter, right? There's no way they could investigate in the time remaining. So, I send another letter stating this, and they (hopefully) delete. Not as good as an update to "current", but much better than the current situation.
I agree with you SK, EXP is probably just stalling. I think EXP really specializes in giving the runaround. They did the same to me about a month ago. I sent in a dispute for a ca account and said the account is incorrect and to please refer to the attached letter from the CA, I also included a copy of the postmarked envie it was sent in. The CA letter clearly indicated this was reporting wrong for insufficient billing on the OC's part and they had requested deletion from the CRA's for the account. EXP could care less. They sent me out a letter saying not enough information to investigate. WTF??? So I disputed online, and have about 8 more days to wait.
Re: EXP says: "Not enough info" Send them the $1000.oo or deletion letter. Include the following in a separate note. Dear Sirs: I do not have access to the letter that you requested but I hope you find the enclosed letter satisfactory.
