When i checked Experian today i noticed they are now reporting my drivers license #. Will I have any problems getting that removed in a dispute?
I called the Experien Customer Service number and asked for my drivers license to be removed by just saying it was an old number, I now live in a different state. I checked the next day and it had fallen off. I also disputed old addresses, alias names, and bad job information. It also fell off.
I disputed old addresses (most were 5-12 years old anyway but a few were newer, thanks to 911 address adjustments and PO boxes) and they came off easily. I asked them to remove hubby's name from my report and they did - but somehow they got my DL # in the past month and added it. I'd rather just say 'remove it' instead of lying that it wasn't my number. But if the only way to get it off is to lie, i will. Is there any law or legit reason that they need to have it on my report?
My license was from 6 years ago in a different state, so I didn't lie to remove it, but it is a different story for you. CRAs typically gather information like that and what type of job or job title you have etc, from credit applications. No there really isn't a reason they should have it. I'm not sure what purpose it serves other than to show longevity (same valid address, license, etc) to potential creditors. No laws that I've read. As far as I'm concerned, they shouldn't have it so get it off if you are paranoid like me (lol)
Perhaps you could tell them the license was expired or revoked by the state. No further information should be needed. Another approach would be to dispute the number (its wrong/not mine) and force them to validate with the DMV in your state. They won't validate with the DMV in all likelihood.
