I normally write letters but I got lazy in my old age :) and decided to try the online dispute with Experian. The account in question is listed as a Collection but there was no account number or any real helpful identifying information so I disputed as not mine. There was a second account that showed late 180 and I disputed that it was late (since it was never 180 days late). I was surprised to see a response from Experian only five days later.

    Here's what I don't get...their response says :

    Collection Account : Updated

    Late Account : Remains

I had imagined that they would then remove the Collection account and keep the late as verified but when I pulled another Transunion report, both accounts are still listed? And the kicker here is that there is a section on their response that says

"Your Statement : Account information disputed by consumer (Meets requirement of the Fair Credit Reporting Act)"

WFT does that mean? I did not ask them to put a statement on my report? Is that what this is? I'm confused even more by the fact that my FICO number has gone up 20 points for experian after pulling thru truecredit today...any ideas? Also, how reliable are the FICO numbers you get from Transunion? Any ideas?

You disputed the original reporting of that account, and the result was not what you had requested, therefore it is assumed you still dispute the account.
Personally I only rely on myfico.com for scores, they have been consistantly dead on with the mortgage broker.

Updated means that they investigated you dispute and got a response from the creditor confirming that you do owe the money so it remains. By law they have to investigate your dispute and respond within 30 days and some states 45 days to update or remove the item, if it takes more then that they have to remove it regardless if you do or do not owe.
So just deny and ask fore copies of proof that you owe this money 95% of the time they don't have that type of info available and or they don't have time to get it.
To make a long story short "give them a run for it".
And check out all my replies
