Experian merged my report with that of someone else. So I got all of the tradlines, addresses, phone numbers, etc of this other person. Their is nothing in common between us except our name is identical. This came out of the blue - no reason for it to happen. He lives in another state and is thirty years younger. All his credit is positive but it looks like I am trying to pull something - using different SS#'s, etc. I wrote EX and explained what they did. They removed the tradelines but kept the addresses and phone numbers. Then they reinserted the tradelines after a few days. I tried again with the letter of explanation. This time everything was verified. I was not asking for verification, I was telling them to fix their screwup. Where do I go from here? I don't need all these extra tradelines, addresses, etc on my report. EX does not seem to understand the simple letters I have sent. I don't want to sue. Would it help to write to the president of the company or their legal staff? Thanks.
Tom, I've been putting out the same kind of fires with Experian for over 3 years now because a woman in FL kinda shares my name. You see, our first and last names are the same but I DO NOT have a middle name or initial. She uses two middle initials interchangeably. One is the initial of her given middle name and the other initial is the first letter of her maiden name. I've gone round and round with experian about this and as recently as last month a new account of hers and again, her name, showed up on my reports. My State AG is looking into the matter now. I retain the right to sue as well. I can tell you from experience that short of outside intervention or a court fight these will most likely continue to come up from time to time on your reports. The woman my file is comingled with is 30 yrs older than I am and I am fearful if she should pass away her creditors would come after me! In addition, I receive all of her junk mail and promotions so it is apparent that MY address is on HER reports. Experian tells me that if I want anything done on that end that I would have to contact her and then have her contact them!!!!! It's nuts! They don't seem to have any controls in place to prevent this unless you put a fraud alert on your file and I refuse to do that. I've opted out of all promotions with the CRA's and out of all mail and telemarketing with DMA. I still get her junk, though, including her medical bills! Indeed, I know far too much about this woman including her address, phone numbers, previous address, and even her drivers license # along with her birthdate. I SHOULD NOT know this stuff about her. If I was a devious person I'm sure I could do major damage to her. What is so scary is that she could do major damage to me as well and who knows how many other people with similar names might have access to each others info as I do. It's been a nightmare for me and I hope you have better luck. If I were you, though, I would contact your states AG and the consumer affairs division of your state. Get documentation going on the problem and make copies of everything. Mist
By the way, in your last sentence you ask if it would help to contact the president of Experian. I tried that twice thru Planet Feedback to no avail. Not even the courtesy of any kind of reply. After the planetfeedback letters I received an opt-out form (in my letter to the CEO I indicated that I had ALREADY opted out.- duh!) and the form came with no note or acknowledgement that it was or was not sent as a result of my letter...nothing-just the form. If anyone has ever had a reply from an Experian corporate officer let me know because I sure haven't but I've tried! Mist
