Man these people are stupid. I called a couple of weeks ago to complain about an incorrect validation. They gave me the fax number and told me to send it attention special handling department. On July 17th I faxed it over. On july 22 I called and the lady confirmed the fax number and told me to give it a few more days which I actually posted about here. Today I call because it does not say it is under investigation and the guy and his idiot supervisor swear up and down they have no fax number nor have they for months. He also refused to transfer me to their special handling department. I argued over and over and he pretty much called me a liar. As far as I am concerned the dispute started july 17, 2002. After 30 days if it remains or is not put under investigation I will take them to court. They can argue to the court system it is not theirs all they want but I am sure it is easy to find out if it is theirs.
Interesting. On a similar note, I tried to dispute a derog online on my experian report and got a message that I had to call Special Services. I called the number listed for Special Services and got the usual morons. Got transferred 4 time to other drones, Waited on hold for 20 minutes. Then got another drone who informed me that She was Special Services. After I repeated all my information to her for the 5th time, she tells me that my report is to be handled only by Carla Blair. I was transferred to Blair. Blair took in the dispute. She made some loud exasperated breathing noises, as she took in my dispute, probably to suggest she does not belive me or maybe, too many lawsuits to stonewall probably keeps her busy. I asked her if I should call her directly, if I have a dispute and she said yes. So I guess, I don't have to call the 800 number anymore. Also, since I am in the same area code as Experian, its a local call to me.
Just send it CRRR! I would love to be able to fax things too, but until I find that a fax confirrmation sheet actually holds up in courts, if it's important enough to sue over, it's important enough to spend the 4 bucks!!!
I would think the reason why a fax confirmation may not hold up in court is because the consumer would not or may not be able to confirm the identity of the business whose number they're faxing to. The CRA's could just raise as a defense that that number is not their fax number and they never received the dispute, information, etc. Other than that, what other reason could there be that a fax would not be considered solid enough proof that the CRA/CA/OC received your letter? Is anyone aware of a reverse directory where you can plug in a number (most likely an 800 number) and it will confirm who owns that number?
there is a site called http://www.anywho.com that does reverse lookups but it does not seem to work for 800 numbers. On another note, what is to stop the company or person from saying the certified letter was empty or had something entirely different than what was sent.

well thank you lbrown but if you leave this site for a couple hours then a couple hundred threads roll through and things disappear in a heartbeat. Personally I do not have time to search through thousands of threads and I would not even know how to work that question in the search box so that it even pulls up what I am looking for. punishment- I will be lashed 10 times.
