There is a dismissed lawsuit showing up on my reports. It shows date (12/01/97), doesn't show whether there was a judgement, an amount or anything else.

How would you suggest disputing. With "not mine" isn't it easy for the CRA's to verify because of ssn?

You can call the courthouse and get a copy of the file and docket sheet/number and all that is in the case file, but it's probably not needed unless you want to see what it's all about. I'm willing to bet that it is was intended to be a CA/OC seeking a judgment and you were not able to be served...you probably moved and/or they could not locate you, therefore not able to properly serve you a summons therefore, the case was dismissed. It's beyond me y they put these on CR's. Thers's no legitimate business reason for it and no judgment. If it's not debt related, then someone was intending on suing you for some reason.

I wouldn't worry about it though. It should come off by end of year. They should only report for 7 yrs like everything else negative.

As far as verifying, a judgment or dismissed civil case like this very rarely contains a SSN so they are easier to dispute as not mine if you have moved, or if you have changed your name---ladies just married?? :) If you have moved, just be sure to change your address to the new one on your credit reports B4 you dispute as not mine.

    Keep us posted.

I know what this dismissed suit is. The plaintiff and I settled out of court. That's why it's dismissed. The credit bureaus don't show a status (judgement, dismissed, etc.). I want to dispute it, because it's a negative entry, stemming from a disagreement.

    It's not a credit item.

Sorry, u'r 1st post let on that you had no clue what it was for. At any rate, you can try to dispute it as "not mine" but I doubt it will get deleted.

I'd try to contact the court house and ask why it was sent to your CR, and ask to have it deleted since it was settled out of court.

    I thought lawsuits weren't reportable.
