I settled with Cross Country Bank and now they have posted a collection account for the rest of the money. What do I do now???

1st) File a validation request with the CA. A week later, file a dispute with the CRAs. If it comes back, verified, sue.

It's getting worse. Thank God for Daily Credit Monitoring.

CCB says they "sold" the PAID account to NCO (The CA) on July 20th of this year. AFTER I paid it.

CCB won't send me anything saying it's PAID, NCO won't do anything without verificationf rom CCB that it's paid.

I'm going insane. I had EVERYTHING off my credit report and now THIS.

All I want to do is refinance my f*ing car!!

Then why are you so worried? Sheesh. All I did was ask a question.

because I'm getting on a plane after work and the last thing I want to worry about is something I took care of years ago. I want to get a letter off this afternoon and I want ideas.

my apologies for having a nervous breakdown.

I guess I could use a vacation more than I could use getting my 20% interest car loan refinanced down to 8%.

My bank just faxed over the cancelled check.

Be VERY, VERY careful with Cross Country Bank. Several years ago there were some people with problems with them and the call them CROOKS Country Bank.

Do a search here and read as much as you can. Absolutely do not talk to them, and get any agreements in writing.

CCB is a bunch of crooks. And a bunch of idiots.
Since their recovery department contact is a Mr. Gallucio, I am thinking they are tied to the Italian Mafia.

As long as you HAVE the letter accessible to you I wouldn't stress over vacation about it!

IF you want to have some fun w/CCB... and since they're already known for playing fast & loose...

Why not get the IRS involved? Yes, the one federal agency you don't need to poke repeatedly to see action.

I'm NOT a beancounter or tax expert, just a tax participant, so anyone correct me if I'm completely wrong here...

When an OC takes your settlement offer, they write off the difference between what you paid and what you owed. That becomes a deduction for them.

You did this years ago, and I'm sure it was written off years ago. Now, that difference has been sold to someone else. Even if it was pennies on the dollar, it's still making a profit from a depreciated asset.

If CCB did it to you, they probably did a few thousand other times. BTW, if you call the right hotline, you get a percentage of what the IRS recovers. Or at least you used to, before the kinder gentler IRS came along.

FTC, FDIC, BBB... I'm sure those agencies don't scare CCB. But I'm thinking if you mention the IRS they'll get RIGHT back to you with a copy of your settlement note in triplicate delivered by a courier in a tuxedo with a bottle of champagne.

I'm Italian: I wasn't aware that if you had an Italian last name, you were automatically in the mafia?

I hope when you sent them the settlement letter you added a line which read something like "you agree this account will not be sold, transferred or assigned to any other company". If so, I would send and IT letter to your original CA for violating their agreement, and send a letter to NCO with a copy of the settlement letter telling them to stuff it and get this off your CR now, or they will be sued, too.
