    I recently applied for the Famous Barr credit card and havn't heard anything from them. Anyone know how I can check the status of my application ? I tried calling the local store and they couldnt tell me anything except to hit option 1 when I dial into their local number. That takes me to credit services which I cannot get a live rep for anything. It keeps saying "Please enter your account number" after hitting zero three times it hangs up on you. They placed an inquiry on my TU report so I know the application has been processed. Thanks!

    What if you wait and don't do ANYTHING after they ask for your acct #? I have Hecht's (same company) and I think if you wait and wait and wait you get transferred to someone but only between 9 and 5.

    I kept hitting zero several times , and it finally said "Please hold for a customer rep, blah blah" Well I got denied, said I'd be getting a letter in the mail and he actually said "You'll be receiving a letter in the mail on how to receive your free credit report." I said Why was I denied, he said because of information contained in your credit report I said what information. He said you'll be receiving a letter in the mail on how to receive a free credit report. I said I want to know why I was denied not how to get a free credit report, he said "oh! the letter will state that also." I betcha it'll say "average age of accounts." We shall see........

    Sorry to hear about the denial. I think that they might be strict on number of inqs. too. Your scores seem pretty good too.

    I thought they were easy too get. Yeah the scores are good but I do have some inquires. I need to stop applying, man I seem to say that often. I just read somewhere that famous barr was pretty lieanet. im not gonna waste my time with anything else for at least a little while. Except for trying to get my cap one limit increased next month, or upgraded to a gold card. ;)

    Maybe try to wait six months if you can before applying for other cards. This doesn't include the credit line increases of course. And people say that the companies get more lenient around the December holidays.

    It very well may be length of accts. Safeway select denied me for their visa for the same reason. I guess their visa is far superior to everyone else's. I've never been denied for that before. As a matter of fact, I just applied for the Amex Optima, and although I don't have confirmation yet, the rep said it looked good and didn't expect any problems. This will be my second Amex card.

    Congrats on your Amex! Someday I hope I can get an amex, I'd love to have that in my wallet :) What is it about Amex, I dont know but to me it seems EXCELLENT. LOL .....

    I'd like to have an Amex too, although I'm sure I'll have to wait at least another year for derogatory information, inquiries, balances, and age of accounts to disappear or conform to their standards...

    I've often thought that four things would make me a legitimate middle-class person, at least creditwise:

    (1) Some kind of Amex card, maybe Blue or Optima Platinum as long as I'm still carrying balances;

    (2) Platinum cards from major banks, like Citibank, Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo;

    (3) Major department store cards, like Macy's, Dillard's, and May Co.; and

    (4) The gas cards my dad has, especially Chevron and Shell.

    I've been able to achieve at least parts of the last 3 goals. I got a Robinsons-May card, from the May Co. store for CA, NV, and AZ, fairly easily almost two years ago. Then I got turned down for the KMart MC this week. I had to apply twice to Target before I got approved, a full year after the first application.

    About department store cards:

    You may get better results if you apply in the store. They figure you'll buy when they want you to, namely right away, rather than when you want to. Of course, it's more embarrassing to get turned down in the store as well. That happened to me at Target. But I think the higher-priced stores are different.

    I do know the in-store courtesy phones are better for getting general information and credit line increases. The reps on those phones have more of a "store" mentality than a "bank" mentality.

    Inquiries seem to be very important when you apply for department store cards. Almost everyone who applies has some derogatory history; that's who the cards are for. But it's the inquiries that really weed out the people bent on one last pre-bankruptcy shopping spree.

    I think it's great that you applied for a Famous-Barr card. I hope you get approved sometime in the future.
