Breeze, Your verbiage is accurate. Below is a response, via e-mail, from Geico. If you would like to pursue activating this policy, please provide the following information: Your social security number and permission to obtain a claims history and credit bureau report. (if you didn't provide it on your application)
tommyy, what were you applying for, and what state? If it's homeowner's there's no way out of a credit inquiry.
Breeze , live in Ohio and its Homeowners, received e-mail verifying this and just called C/S and got the same response. Also, next month I'm coming up on my auto renewal. lJust rec'd a questionnaire from Geico stating they do periodic surveys to update info. Every question is exactly the same as a new application. Obviously this questionnaire is geared to charge me more. Its looking for usage of car (longs and shorts), future drivers in household, my wifes SS#, driving records, etc. Heck I gave them this last year during the application process. They state I have to fill in "EVERY" question and return. Again, obviously this is being used to re-rate my policy. I do understand though, the entire industry is doing this.
They're just looking for changes in the risk. Lots of people don't call and inform their company of changes. I have USAA, and twice a year they do the same thing, even though I always call and update when I have relevant changes. USAA is not paying dividends this year It's tough all over, I guess.

If I can have 2 inquires in 6 months, and FARMERS INSURANCE makes # 3 so I am DENIED credit...SAY @ 4.75% FIXED and have to settle for 9.99% FIXED...THEY OWE ME MONEY!!!!!!!!
