I didn't even know my father had my cc, heck i didn't even know i had one..i applied for one and never got it, i just assumed i didn't qualify.. We'll to make a long story short he promise to pay for the cc if i paid 1 payment well i did for $550, and he never made anymore payments that was in 2001 or 2002.. Now all the credit collection people are calling and i've told them it wasn't me it was my father...and they said i had to file a court order against him and he could go to jail. we'll he can't he's legal incompitant (spelling) The bills now up to &1700 and something, after interest and late charges blah blah blah.... So what can the C.C. people do 2 me, and what can i do for myself?? HELP!!! Banruptcy not an option, getting married in a few months, buying a home....
I applied for an Exxon card long ago and since I never received it, I assumed I wasn't getting it either. Well I did get it and my dad thought it was his; I never seen the mail. It was easy since we have the same name albeit I am the third and he is junior. Well he used it for years and built up great credit with it, never late, etc. In the home buying process I discovered this err and he called and closed out the card. Well my reports still show the card as paid, never late with an opening date of like 1987 so the history has helped me. It's somewhat like your story but with a better ending. Good luck with your situation.
Dear Alkie, Back in 97, I found out my older sister had opened a discover card in my name while I served in the USMC overseas. She ran up charges to $5800 in a month and never made a payment. Discover told me to go to the police. I did they(the police) laughed at the fact I wanted them to investigate a crime that may have taken place across the country. ( I was stationed in NY at the time.) I came to the realization that these companies have fraud prevention and security departments of their own and I put the ball in their playing field by filing a fraud claim. The way I see it, this is one of the things that the poor higher interest souls are paying for. Let the banks truly earn their money. The result was My name cleared of this., My father was the unlucky one they determined it was his debt. He paid it and sucked up the paid charge off on his credit reports. the process did take enough time to further screw up my credit. All it take is one event to get that snowball moving down hill. If I only knew then what I know now. Thank God it is over!! (for the most part) Good Luck
