Hello again, My father went in to take a mortage on his home and was told that he had bad debts. The bad debts being shown on his report are from my credit reports! Has anyone ever heard of this type of thing? It is preventing my father from getting another mortage on the house so I was wondering if there was anything that could be done about it. I was thinking maybe sending a dispute to the CRAs and then if they did not comply sending each of them an intent to sue. I thought this might work since we KNOW for a FACT that those tradelines do not belong on his report (they are from mine ). My father and I have exactly the same name except he's a Sr and I'm a Jr. Could this have anything to do with it? And if so, why didn't the idiot CRAs notice the difference in birth dates and social security numbers? Any advice on what to tell my father to do about this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Yes. This happened between my father and my brother. They have the same name. No JR, SR, I, II or anything else. My brother has often fallen on hard times and moves back in with our folks so many of the addresses are the same. The worst was when my brother, in serious trouble, actually applied for credit using my father's SSN. He then used the cards, further linking their bureaus. It took my parents 3 years to clear it all up! The CRAs didn't check that their SSNs are different my fathers begins with 0 and my brother's begins with 4. Dad born in Jan, brother born in Feb. It will not be easy to clear. You can write the bureaus that those are your debts, but sometimes they come back verified anyway. Then you have the additional complication that you have just admitted to those debts and they will be difficult to clear from yours. Have you father look closely at his bureau. My hubby has 3 "other" SSNs on his bureau! (1 being mine 2 not recognized). The existence of your SSN may make it even more difficult to get the accts off. He needs to make sure that ONLY his SSN and addresses are on his bureau first, then dispute the debts!
