I have had a FCNB card since last April. Last week I logged in through their web site to request a credit line increase of $400. Well today I got a letter in the mail that said I was denied. The reason was review of my account history. Anyone else get this with them? I have never missed a payment with them and I would think most credit companies do an increase with atleast 6 months of credit history with them. Maybe they go a year? Should I wait to try then or should I call and try again? Thanks, Misty
MistyEyed, What kind of FCNB card do you have? Last year, I requested limit increase after six months of account opening and they increased my limit from $2500 to $3250. By the way, they pulled credit from Equifax. Ron.
I did the same thing and got the same letter. Never missed a payment, no lates, never over the limit and always pay at least $50 a month. My limit is only $150 so I"m paying 1/3 each month. Who knows? I may just cancel them. My year is up in March.
I would call them, not to simply try again, but to ask why exactly you were denied. If you've never been over the limit and never late, how can it be account history? And if it were due to your account not being old enough, then the ltr should say "due to lack of account history", although, 10 months is longer than any c.c.c. that I know of needs to decide whether or not to give you a cr. line increase.
Thanks guys. I am gonna call them on Monday to see what the deal is. My limit is only $600 and I may just cancel them. Between them and Sterling the credit lines are just awful. I have since gotten a much higher credit line with my local bank and with the low balance on them its hard to get a good ration of debt with them. Besides Sterling isnt doing credit increases anymore so they aere in my red book now.
I have found that FCNB works without rhyme or reason. My husband and I each have the same type of account. We have had our cards just over a year. My limit has been raised twice and my husband's just once. Our limits are not high, but that's okay. In our experience, FCNB is not generous with limit increases. It seems as though they are cautious. I would call them and ask why the denial.
I, too, never have been late, or missed a payment. I have had my card for over two years. I am so disgusted with FCNB I may close it. It sounds like others are going through what happened to me. I started with an unsecure credit line of $1000. I received $500 increases every six months for two years and my limit went to $2500. However my last credit line increase request the past September was granted for only $250, even though this time my balance was ZERO - I had paid it off the entire balance for the first time. I always had a fairly high balance when previously requesting my line increases. When I called to complain this last time about the skimpy credit line increase the rep said the reason was FCNB had policy changes and interest rates went up (mine didn't - it is still 21%) but the percentage formula for credit line increases was lowered. So, I was receiving large increases every six months for two years for good behavior. Now, the rep said, credit line increases were confined to 10% to 20% of my current credit line. It's fair to point out my card is a Fresh Start card - due to my bk. Others with a regular Visa may get a better break. But I was screwed, and so it seems others. FCNB sucks.
Me and my fiancee will be cancelling our cards next month due to no cl increases since last May never late.. Just curious as to who is buying them out...
Try waiting 2.5 years with no limit increase with AMEX BLUE and 6+ years with MBNA AMERICA with NO limit increase... Both are collecting lint!!!
