Hi there, I have read in two separate credit repair forums that people have been able to get some kind of letter from the courts/clerk's office to prove they don't verify. Can someone tell me more about how to get a letter like this? I live in Texas. My bankruptcy from 10 yrs ago dropped off (and discharged fed income taxes) but there are two Fed Tax Liens that are still on. I recently disputed it with the CRAs but they claimed they verified them and updated them. I went down to the county clerks office (it's also viewable online) and printed them out. One was from 1994 and one from 1992. The document itself said that if not renewed by IRS in ten yrs, the document turns into an instrument of release. This would mean that the liens were released in 2002 and 2004. I understand the CRAs keep this on for another 15 yrs or maybe more. I am trying to dispute this situation and do not know how they verified. The county clerk says if someone faxes a request, they turn it around and send the info out in two days! Or tell them just to look online. Because I don't have a formal release, just an expiration, this won't show in my records. I was also told if I ever wanted to buy a house, I'd have to get a release from the IRS and it would prob be dated the day I ask and filed then on public records. So my questions are: How to get that letter from the courts and then question the CRA's verification process? and How to proceed trying to get these liens erased from CRAs sooner than 15 yrs or "indefinately"
You'll need to clarify exactly what this supposed letter is for. I've never heard of paid tax liens coming off a CR before 15 years.
