Concerned about Credit Report Score. I am trying to obtain a federal job and would like to know how much emphasis they put on the score or do they look at what is on the report. I am not defult on student loans or any type of federal loans just credit cards and a couple of utility bills.
If your federal job requires a security check they will run a complete background check on you. And what they will be looking for is a pattern of behavior...so it isn't only your credit score...usually they will hire you first and then run the bankground check...but if you don't pass they will let you go... good luck. clc
When I worked for the fed gov a few years ago as far a the credit component of the background check, they pulled EQ and at that time they were mostly looking for delinquent student loans. Some people were let go b/c of this. Since the loans are backed by the fed. gov., they didn't want you working there if you weren't meeting these obligations. I did work w/ people who had other credit problems like repos, etc. It seemed like if you were trying to "take care of business" you'd be okay. Some people had a personal interview b/c of their credit problems and if they could explain, they were okay. The focus there seemed to be whether you'd be vulnerable to considering bribes b/c of financial problems. HTH.

Tea, if they've gone this far in the process, it sounds like you might be getting the job. When I worked there they only did the background check if you were going to be offered a position. Let me know how it turns out for you.
