Please somebody out there help me! I need some advice as to how to get Federal Tax Liens removed from my credit report. There are two on my report that are flat out wrong! One of the two has been "released" by the IRS. The other one is inaccurate. What letter should I send and to who? Thanks Greatlifestyle
I only had a state one but I sent a copy of the paperwork that I had to the reporting agencies, so far two have taken the lien off.
Hello, I have been working for months to get a tax lien removed. I have found out that even if a lien is "released" it still shows up on your credit report. After many hours of waiting on hold and speaking to different people I was told to file form #12277 "Application for Withdrawal of Form 668(Y), Notice of Federal Tax Lien." That form is easy enough to fill out. The hard part is actually getting someone to look at it. Publication 4235 has contact numbers and addresses for every state. This can be found here http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p4235.pdf From what I have been able to find out is that they will only do a "withdrawal" if there was a mistake or there was no tax owed. I was also told that the Taxpayer Advocate could help. Their phone number is 877-777-4778. When I called them I was transferred to the person who handled the "liens." She stated that they could not do anything to help with liens. I found that odd. Why would they have a person handle something which they couldn't help with? I just found this out today. That is all the info I have at the moment.
