According to my Equifax Online Score Power FICO score I lost 3 pts after 1 collection and 2 charge-offs were removed. This doesn't surprise me, Equifax seems to "retaliate" when I investigate, but I expected my score to increase. Anyone have this happen before? T-Man
This is my theory, if it is an old tradeline, that gave you a longer credit history and then you lose it. It may have an effect on your score. My Eq says my history is 11 years plus however my oldest tradeline is a defaulted student loan that is 11 years old
It's actually because the score was artificially raised while the items were in dispute. When things move from dispute status to either delteion or correction, the score is recaculated with the items reincluded, in whatever form they come. Happened to me too -- I had an account in dispute, which raised my score. Had the late pays deleted, but when the account was included, I only got half the boost because it was so near the limit, and before this factor wasn't counted either. Only happens like this on EQ.
msb212 I have some deletions that have not taken effect yet, but my score has kept going up everytime something has been deleted. Any suggestions?
The 3 points that I lost were based on a my score with no current investigations in progress. These items were verified first and then removed when I called challenging the validity of these items they say were investigated. T-Man
If you put items in dispute on Equifax, they will recalculate your score without the items in dispute. IF those items are deleted, your score will stay where it is. If they are verified, or a few are verified and a few are deleted, your score will be refigured. In your case, did anything else at all change such as balances, an inquiry etc? If not, then reason most likely would be the shortening of your credit history.
When I disputed I noticed no score changes whatsoever.... I in the past month have had 5 items removed from my EQ and yet the scores are pretty much the same..
It's all a mystery. Today a car loan was reported as fully paid, zero balance, and my score dropped 5 points on EQ. Everything is interconnected -- sometimes when an account is deleted, the score drops because there is now less available credit so the % avail decreases and score drops. Also, sometimes deleteing old accounts shortens your credit history = lower score. Or, the ratio of installemnt loans to revolving debt changes. Or, the roulette wheel just came up double zero. None of it makes sense.
