I applied for another Cap1 card several months ago and I got the 0% interest rate intro but they added that "monthly participation fee" to boot.

I accepted it knowing that I would combine it into another account. Curious: since new accounts hurt your score for 6 - 12 months after getting them, if I close this acct at the 6 month mark, will closing the account neutralize the "new account" effect?

I'm tired of calling up every month for fee rebates. And I don't really need this extra account. Any insight on the effect of this on my score?

Since a new account (6-12 months) lowers your FICO slightly. I don't think closing would hurt your FICO in any way. I agree with your opinion to close it. It's not worth having to deal with the CC each month to get the fee credited. Best wishes.
