How can I get a credit card to rebuild credit history when my FICO is only in the low 600's? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks! Calmest_LA EQ....604 EX....611
With that score you should be able to get a Direct Merchants Bank Visa or MC. I have found their service & online account management to be excellent with the exception of a few things. Frankly, I'm not even inclined to switch to another CC because: 1. They have been quite generous with their credit line. 2. With some pushing & prodding you can get your APR way down. Call them frequently to educate you about things like average daily balance, APR versus nominal APR even if you already know the answers. It shows you're more aware than the average customer and are willing to question them. Be tenacious, and the CSR will transfer you to retention if their credit review dept doesn't satisfy you. 3. Their website is visually pleasing, well organized & quite easy to navigate. 4. A payment made before 4PM CST will post by the next morning. Drawbacks 1. Unless you opt out, expect to be hounded via mail & telephone for their expensive "enhancement" products. 2. If you are ever late with a payment, for the next 12 months, there will be a 15-day wait to restore your full available credit after you make a payment.
Another good way to rebuild credit is to take out a small personal loan and pay it back at a low fixed interest rate.
You could also be approved for an unsecured Capital One card with those scores. They have online account access, and you can pay your bills through it, for free. You can request a credit line increase within 6 months of opening the account, just make your payments on time.
Wow, I came back today to see suggestions, and I'm seeing several options here that sound good. Thanks everyone Calmest_LA
