I'm trying to purchase a property and was told I need a 660 credit score. I receive a free credit score through my Sears card (TU only) once per month. Well last week, I checked my credit score through both my Sears card and MyFICO.com (TU only) and got exactly same (645) score. Well, Today I checked again and they both are very different (669 - Sears and 648 - MyFico). Does anyone know why there would be 24 pts difference? I was told that Sears is a true FICO score and therefore the score should be the same as MyFICO.com. Maybe, Iâ??m missing something. Anyone know how I can get 26 pts real fast? Only 1 derrogatory which is a 30 day late from two years ago, but I have some new credit.
Someone mislead you. It's not your true FICO score. It's a FAKO, and I believe it's actually the same free score you can get through using creditkarma.com, which explains the discrepancy. They have some sort of partnership with Sears. In the future, always get your FICO scores through myFico.com when you're preparing to apply for a loan.
And even then, the score you get may not be the score the lender will get. There are various FICO models, and the one for mortgages is different than the one you get from myfico. But it will give you an idea if you're in the range.
