First of all don't make fun of me and all my accounts. I wasn't worried about them because I will not be needing a mortgage.

    Providian 9/98 - 8,300
    FCNB Secured 02/00 - 5,375 w/2,850 deposit
    MBNA Gateway LOC 01/99 - 5,000
    Chase Walmart Secured 11/99 - 2,500
    Optima Platinum 08/00 - 1,000 "LOL"
    CapOne S/E Master - 04/00 - 900/300
    CapOne Visa Gold - 04/99 - 600
    CompUSA - 09/99 - 3,300
    FCNB Newport News - 11/99 - 3,000
    HSB Gateway - 07/99 - 2,000
    Macy's - 06/98 - 2,000
    Best Buy - 02/99 - 840
Home Depot - 02/99 - 500, was 4,000 but lowered because of all my new credit.

    Chevron - 05/00 - 300
    Phillips 66 - 11/99

These accounts here are also on my report, but as "AU":
    Citibank AA Gold - 09/00 - 10,000
    NextCard - 10/99 - 300
    Spiegel - 09/00 - 400

These accounts has been paid off and closed as of last month and this month:
    GoodYear - 05/99 - 500
    DMB Secured Mastercard - 03/00 - 500
    Ochard Mastercard - 02/99 - 500
    Orchard Visa - 02/99 - 650
    Amex Secured Optima - 07/99 - 1,000
    FNB Marin Visa - 06/99 - 700
    FNB Marin Mastercard - 03/00 - 400
    CapOne Secured Mastercard - 04/99 - 400
    CapOne ValueOne Mastercard - 09/99 - 400
    Cross Country Mastercard - 09/99 - 1,100
    Blair - 10/98 - 800
    Beneficial Loan - 07/99 - 1,600
    Providian Visa Gold - 09/00 - 1,000

Dang I know that's a lot. I don't plan on closing any more until the next 3-6 months. Of my open accounts, about 8 have balances. I've really been trying to knock down my debt and close unneccessary accounts. I not trying to get a mortage, but I am trying for a Dicover Platinum.

So you guys tell my what you think I really need to do.
I am not getting rid of Providian, MBNA, Macys, NewPort News, or my FCNB secured mastercard.

    Thanks

DUMP HOME DEPOT IF THEY WON'T PUT IT BACK TO $4,000!!! THEY TAKE VISA, M/C, AMEX, AND DISCOVERCARD.

Back in the olden days you would have gotten a $5,000 min. gold...
    CapOne Visa Gold - 04/99 - 600...JOKE???

    Chevron - 05/00 - 300
    Phillips 66 - 11/99
    WHY???
They take VISA, M/C, AMEX, DISCOVERCARD.

You asked so I'll give my 2 cents. How much interest does the deposit on secured cards you have pay? I ask because if you are carrying a balance on some cards and the interest rate is greater than the interest your getting on your deposits, you would be paying yourself by closing the secured accounts and applying the deposits against existing debt.

    Regards,
    JP

Thanks for the advice JP, but it's not so much that I can't pay the existing debt off, it's that I just haven't. I've paid off about 15,000 worth of debt in the last month. I am keeping my secureds because I wanted accounts with those 2 lenders and they wouldn't approve me for the unsecured, so I took what I could get.

Gas cards are fine as long as they don't show up on your credit reports. They put some of your activity, and possibly some balances, out of sight from nosy creditors like MBNA.

    I love my gas cards.

    That's all Mom.
Home Depot is sure to go, for some odd reason my hubby wants me to keep Best Buy, but it'll probably go too. CapOne Gold will go in April.

I just closed 2 accounts. They are sams personal credit with a $1500.00 limit, and my nextcard visa with a $9500.00 limit on 11/13/00.Now i only have 3 tradelines as follows.

    CHASE 14,000.00 limit

    DISCOVER 9,000.00 limit

    MBNA 8,000.00 limit

This will raise my F.I.C.O score but at the same time i am going get a CITIBANK card with a cheap interest rate for balance transfers.Atleast i don't have too much availible credit for citibank to grant me a reasonable credit limit.I am going to wait until june of 2001 to allow sufficient time for my 2 closed accounts to appear on my credit report.
