I am trying to buy my first house & this board is helping me immensly! I wanted to know how to know where to apply for a mortgage loan? Is the norm to go to your own bank first? Not sure if I would get approved through them (Bank of America) b/c my score is only about 600. So, how do I know what brokers to use - word of mouth in my area? Thanks all for your help!
Your bank will usually only handle the A+ situations...full documentation employment, top credit scores, etc. Word of mouth is good, if you know people who have purchased recently and like the service they got, it's a good place to start.
