My son is 20, in second year of college with excellent grades, and works a job where he makes about $1000 per month. Same job for about three years. He has no credit.

We figured it is about time to establish some credit for him. What card would be a good place to start? He does not need a card, but probably should start establishing his credit. He's very responsible so I don't worry about him screwing up.

I would try Discover or one of the Citibank student cards. Both good prime companies that love college students. Credit limits are pretty small - $1000-1500, but it will help to establish his credit. I would recommend Amex Blue for Students, but everyone I know that has applied for it has been denied.

My first credit card was a discover card. Citibank wouldn't touch me even though I made a decent living considering I was a full time student, but they gave my roomate who was a freshman at the time a card even though she had no income.
