It is more of a TU screw up than anything else. Like I said, FP doesn't report any differently than any other cards. I, too, have other accts that are a year or so old that say stuff like "Never late in last 27 months" and such.

I don't think it would be legal for FP to report false information like that intentionally.

I ASSUME you are not going to RENT A CAR...STAY IN A HOTEL...FLY ON A PLANE...ORDER ANYTHING FROM ANY BUSINESS...ETC...

GOOD LUCK...MY IN-LAWS TRIED TO BE CREDIT CARD FREE...(IT WAS FINE IN THE 60'S-70'S...BUT IT DIDN'T WORK IN THE 80'S-00'S)...THEY WERE KINDA' EMBARRASED WHEN WE HAD TO GO ON VACATION WITH THEM AND PAY FOR EVERYTHING!!! NOBODY WANTED THEIR STINKIN' CHECKS...THEY COULD CARE LESS IF THEY HAD $50,000 IN THEIR CHECKING ACCOUNT OR $100...THEY DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE IT!!!

    PLANE
    CAR RENTAL
    GROCERIES
    SOUVENIRS
    HOTELS
    GAS
    RESTAURANTS

    GOOD LUCK AGAIN...

Now can't you use a visa, or mastercard debit card for most of these things? And have the amount deducted from your checking account?.I was told that unless the card specifically states it's a check card the merchant would have no idea.

You can use your Visa Checkcard the same as any VISA card and they will take it.

    The only drawbacks are:

It is linked to your checking account and any mixup or mistake could be very disaterous.

You are limited by whatever you have available in your checking account.

When my credit was really bad this was I all I used for things like renting cars and hotel rooms and I never had a problem.

Be advised if you use it for those things you'd better have alot of money in your checking account because car rental places and hotels like to put "holds" on a certian amount from yout checkcard.

That means you can't use that money until you check out or return the car.

    Ask them beforehand about this!

It is my understanding from friends who have tried to go the "cc free" route that somehow the rental car companies CAN tell that it's a debit card even when the card just has the Visa logo. I have been told that only Budget allows you to rent w/ a debit card.
You shouldn't have to have a cc but in our society it is just a whole lot easier to do many things if you do have one.

yeah i heard that even if you don't have sufficient funds in your checking account, visa or mastercard are liable to pay. Hence the reason they sometimes do credit checks before issuing debit cards.

also if you buy something online from a shady business that sends the wrong thing or doesn't send what you ordered you can't dispute it if you used your debit card. this is why i always buy things online with a credit card.

my main reason for having credit cards is to build credit so i can get a mortgage in a couple of years. don't let someone trick you into applying for a mortgage before your ready! i'm waiting until I KNOW I can get an A credit mortgage with a bank, not a broker. not only do you have to have 5% down, but you have to have 4-6 mos worth of payments (liquid reserves)

I just got an AMEX card even tho I think paying $55 a year for card I can't even carry a balance on REALLY SUX for one reason only:

the AMEX card looks really good to lenders: it says "this person manages credit well"

i'm not even planning on using my cards until a few months before i apply, then I'm going to put $50-$100 dollars on each card, so it shows up on my credit report. (otherwise the lender will assume if it has a $0 balance that it is a "sockdrawer card"

if they called her and signed up over the phone, they're required by law to disclose all the fees. I work for AmEx and if we dont disclose the fees our sales bounce, so i'm sure she had to know.

No way. If you don't have sufficient funds, first of all the transaction will not be authorized. Second, if you use your debit card, the transaction authorizes, and then you go write bad checks, the Visa/MC debit will be paid and the check will be bounced. In Virginia and in many states this is a crime, and you can end up with a criminal record. Do it several times and you get to meet the judge :)

The next time you tried to use that Visa/MC the merchant would be instructed to confiscate the card (or the ATM machine would just not give it back). Then you would be posting on message boards asking how to get off Chexsystems because your bank account was closed and you can't possibly pay all that money, and no one will give you a checking account.

...MORE some ATM/DEBIT/VISA CHECK CARD/PIN # cards (WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO CALL THEM)...SOME HAVE A LIMIT OF CHARGES...I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE IN YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT...I'M TALKING ABOUT THE NUMBER OF TRANSACTIONS...SAY 5-10 AND THEY SHUT YOU OFF...OR SAY $500...EVEN IF YOU HAVE $18,000 IN YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT...YOU WILL BE SHUT OFF...this is really geat at CHRISTMAS...we have a bunch of CRABBY customers at WAL*MART who get "shut off"...

You would be AMAZED at the number of people don't have any idea that their card would "SHUT OFF"...I tell them to use a "REAL" credit card, or get their bank to increase the limits...(when I explain about the "BANK IMPOSED LIMITS"...they aren't mad at WAL*MART anymore)...AS IF WE COULD APPROVE OR DECLINE ANY CARD...
