Hello everyone, This is my first time and I do not know where to start. Too be frank and honest at the ripe old age of 50 I have decided to repair my credit myself. I do not know where to start however I have abtained my credit report and my score is poor 564 to be exact. Can only one tell me what do I do next or where do I go if its a web site or library? I really do need this help I want to be credit worthy and reestablish favorable credit. Thanks for your help.

    Hi blkpearl52, and welcome!

If you've been reading the board for a while, you've probably seen that most any information you could need to help you with your repair journey is available to you here.

Your best first steps are to read the links at the top of the board which contain the FAQs and a glossary which will help you understand what everyone's posting about.

In there you'll find links to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Print a copy of them and spend some time studying them to help you understand your rights.

Do a search on the board for "top 100 mistakes" and read through that thread. There is some great info there on what not to do. No point in making the same mistakes others have before you.

My biggest caution to you is somehting I posted in the mistakes thread, don't send anything, don't dispute anything, don't start taking credit repair steps other than reading and learning until you understand why you're taking the steps you are and what your next step will be depending your results. That approach will save you a lot of headaches down the road.

There is loads of help available to you here and you don't have to have completed all of your study to post questions, so don't hesitate to ask.

    All the best!

Welcome to the board! Like the others said, there are 3 main credit bureaus, you need to get all three reports. Read the FAQ's and if you have any questions while you're reading, post them and someone will answer.

It's work, but it's worth it. We all started where you are. :)

    Welcome Pearl,

I'll see your 50 and raise you 3 (almost)! LOL

I started in April by pulling all 3 credit reports.

It can be a slow a tedious process at times, but the results are extremely satisfying!

    As of today:
    EX 14 down to 8
EQ 13 down to 11 (they're TOUGH to deal with)
    TU 17 down to 11

    RULES OF THE ROAD:

    Read, read, read.
    Dispute, dispute, dispute.
    Validate, validate, validate.
    SUE, SUE, SUE!

    We are here for you.

Excellent answer. I wish this was pointed out more often. I see relative newcomers jump right in and send validations, estoppels, etc, and when they get a response or when they don't get a response, it's always, "I did this......now what do I do". They have no idea why they sent what they did. Follow this advice.

    Thanx LKH,

Good advice about good advice. :)

I've seen some go ahead and jump in to sending letters out BEFORE they even join the board.

    LOL
