First USA denial? At light speed!

Just applied online for First USA, filled out the application and hit submit. Funny thing was the very moment I hit submit - there really was absolutely no processing delay whatsoever - it threw up a "you will hear by mail in 30 days" message which I'm presuming I can take as a denial. Can't work out how they could reject the application so quickly.... Anyone got any insight here? All my scores are over 700 and I've got no negatives on any credit report. Would appreciate any thoughts.

It could just mean they're online app processor is down. Same thing happened to me with I applied for my Amex Blue. Filled out the online app and almost immediately got the "30 days" message. About 3 days later they called to confirm my card and I asked why it wasn't instant and they told me it was a server issue.

Just called up and talked to a rep but they say they can't find any trace of the application yet, suggested I try them tomorrow. Thanks to all for your help!

It had had happened to me before. The system was down and it depends on the time of the day when you're apply. I called to the automated system to check the status of my application and I was approved. It was two yrs ago when I applied for First USA Smart Visa.

Thanks - just tried again but there is still no record of the app on their system. Guess I'll just have to try later in the week. As a matter of interest does anyone know which CRA First USA usually pull for California?

    How about an update....

what cra was pulled, what day (how long after you applied), how long until your status became available in the system?

Not a lot to report! Tried the automated status system daily during the last week, kept getting a message that my SS does not match any application. I will probably call and ask a rep what is going on but my guess is the app got lost in the ether... Nothing in the mail this week either.

et tu? I had the exact same thing happen yesterday. Please report back anything you discover.

Have you checked to see if they pulled any files?

Yes, I did. Nothing showing on Equifax or Experian, I don't check TU. Would they show up this quick anyway? I'll keep you posted.
    Thanks

Yeah, they show up immediately. They should be pulling EXP in CA. This is kinda weird.

FWIW, and I have no idea whether this will work or just get you an extra INQ and the possibility of an extra card, but I have been toying with the idea of putting in a second app while in never, never land -- the hope being that the two apps in the system might be processed by the same single INQ. I have zero factual evidence to believe this would actually be the case...but I'm considering trying it as a flyer.

If you don't have an INQ after a week and I am experiencing the same instant ether, there is trouble in never, never land.

Quick update. FUSA must have found the disappearing application! After getting "no trace of the application" all last week I checked the automated line yesterday and it told me the app was now pending and that I would be hearing from them in 30 days (which I again presumed was indeed a denial). They pulled EX on Sunday(?). Checked again today on the automated line and it now tells me that I have been approved and that I will get the card etc within 10 days. No idea on type of card or limits etc. Hope it was worth the wait!
    thanks to all
