I have been innundated with First USA Pre-selected Platinum offers lately. Some are cobranded cards, others are not. Does pre-selected mean anything at all? My Equifax is about 600 with no derogs in over 1 year. As of Wednesday I will have Zero balances on my all of my cards (FCNB, GetSmart, Target, Home Depot) with only a balance on a GMAC car loan. Any advice on whether I should risk an inquiry? I need a Gold or Platinum card to avoid the LDW when renting a car in May.

    Thanks!

"PRE-SELECTED" AND "PRE-QUALIFIED" ARE NOTHING SPECIAL...

You are "PRE-SELECTED" or "PRE-QUALIFIED" to apply...

    boomer,

I got 2 pre-select offers for Ca$h-in Platinum Card and Free Cash Platinum Visa Card within 2 months. I don't think that I have any trouble to get one of the cards because I have two accounts with them and I keep all my accounts in good standing. First USA pull credit from Experian.

Hate to be a downer, but my *cat* was 'preselected' from Discover to apply for a Platinum card..... so that tells me that preselected doesn't mean squat.

I did not as I do not want to risk another inquiry. I just started disputing a few late pays from a year ago and don't want to offset these possible deletions by adding an inquiry just yet. Maybe is I get the deletions.
