Quick (well, not that quick) recap for those of you who didn't read previous posts: 1. applied for the "instant online approval" Readers Digest Plat MC - has good terms - gritted my teeth and overlooked the fact that they're issued by big bad First USA 2. Received the dreaded " we'll let ya know 30 days bla bla" response 3. Called to check on "application status." 4. Was told the dreaded "pending" word - because they need to verify info - send in phone bill, gas bill, ssn photocopy and 2nd grade report card (ok - joking about the report card) 5. Tell them - sure that's fine and dandy - but am I "pending" for the Plat card (good terms) or the crappy "standard" (bad terms) card (if ur not approved for Plat - your automatically considered for the Standard - but I don't want that now - do I?) 6. Answer - we dunno - they have to receive your phone bill, etc - before they review the report. 7. Asked board members - should I just cancel the application? 8. Seven board members said WAIT til ya know and then decide - so what if you have to cancel the card - at least you'll know. ONE board member (SAAR) said cancel it IMMEDIATELY - don't do business with CRIMINALS! 9. THOUGHT LONG AND HARD. 10. THOUGHT SOME MORE. 11. Decided to take Saar's advice and called them - just now - and asked them to withdraw the application. 12. NO WAY JOSE! Sorry bud - says FUSA - we can't cancel an application! You're just gonna have to wait and see what happens, If you're approved and you no like (if you only get the standard card) - you'll have to activate it and THEN cancel it. 13. During the application I took advantage of a bt offer. You can't cancel that either! If you're approved - it goes through automatically. 14. If you no like - says First USA rep - just bt the amount back to another card after you get our card and THEN you can close the account. SUMMARY: All the excruciating, heart wrenching, intense internal debate on whether to cancel the application or not - was wasted energy. They got your number and they ain't cancelin' nothin! THE UP SIDE? i'll know (supposedly) in a few days - after they receive in the mail my verification info - if - and what - I'm approved for. THE DOWN SIDE: Couldn't take Saar's advice even if I wanted to - cuz the big wheels are turnin' and there's no getting off now.

Well, hey if you didn't send the verification info, wouldn't they just let it sit??? And eventually it would get purged, and then it would just go away.....
It's all about VOICE and EXIT. Once you're doing business with the mob, you cannot VOICE, and there's really only one way to EXIT. Saar
Guys, I don't know how accurate their "status" system is, but I called the status number George gave out and put in my social security number. Being that I have NEVER applied with FUSA, I find it highly funny that I got the following message "Thank you for applying, your application is under review. You will be notified in 7-10 business days with a decision." That right there shows their system might just spit out whatever it feels like. Kinda funny I think.
Or, maybe you just applied for a First USA card... after all they now have your social security number.
I like Breeze's idea BUT...what if they request info and you just don't send it and instead they turn around and notify whoever in regards to a possible fraudulent account? Or (like in someone else's case on the board) report the account on your credit report as stolen?
Breeze - I forgot to mention - before I got cold feet - I sent in all the verification they asked for. So it looks like I'm just gonna have to dig up my gun proof vest and wait it out
