Does FirstUSA ever do CL increases? I have never seen anyone post here on this issue. If so, are there any things they look for? And, do they pull a hard or soft inquiry? Do I call them, do it online, or write? About 16 months ago, they decreased my CL from $8500 to $3000 (my balance at the time) because a paid collection popped up on my reports. The collection was not mine and I got it off, but FirstUSA was not willing at that time to give me an increase to my old limit. I wanted to try again but not if it is not going to work.
They bought my GE Mastercard a couple of years ago and have not made any changes at all. No credit line increases or (fortunately) decreases. Even when I got close to the CL, they still didn;t raise it. All over accounts have continuously raised my limit.
FIRST USA gave me a "PRE-APPROVED", NO INQUIRY increase of $5,000...BUT when I did a BT a couple of months later, THEY DID A "HARD"!!!
FirstUSA is not well liked by many on this board because of unexpected APR increases or like you, balance decreases. I started out with a BankOne(firstUSA) card in 1995, 5k limit. I never made a late payment, always made more that minimums, and carried a balance. I got a letter moving my APR to 23.99%(due to fico). I called and voiced my displeasure. I talked to a supervisor and told them if the rate stuck I would close my card account and pay it off, and close my BankOne accounts. They rescinded the rate. Since then I have had my CL increased to about 11k. 2 months ago, I got a preapproved platinum card offer from them. I applied since I only have a standard account. I was turned down, even though I have a very small balance, have never been late, etc. I have a medical collection account that is 6 years old. I disputed with TU(the bureau they pulled), and it came off. I then used PlanetFeedback and nicely told them if I didn't get upgraded to a better card, I would quit using the card. The "Executive Offices" called, told me they would have to pull another hard inquiry. I agreed, they approved me for a $1000 dollar platinum card and then moved the balance and combined the credit limit from my standard card. So I now will be receiving a Platinum Card with a 12k+ balance. BTW my scores were in the low to mid 600's until recently(thank you Creditnet!!!). My TU score before their last inquiry was 722). Although I like my credit line, I don't trust FirstUSA not to raise my APR's.
I got "JACKED" on one of my accounts to 22.49% for NO reason...so I closed all 3 of our accounts totalling about $72,000
