I just wanted to start a new thread to tell you all what happened. (See my other post). I called the doctor's office that sent these bills to the collection agency. They told me that they do not use this particular collection agency any more because they were being so rude and harrassing their patients. So... I told the billing person at the doctors office that I would pay these to the doctors office if she could see to it that they were removed from my credit report. She said she knows nothing about credit bureaus and credit reporting so she is going to see what she can do to have these removed. My question is this - if I pay the doctor's office, not the credit bureau, can the credit bureau that is reporting it to TransUnion insist that it stay on there as being paid, even if they have nothing to do with collecting the debt? I wouldn't think they could, but does anybody know?

No, they can not. Then they would be reporting inaccurate information which is a violation of the FCRA.

Also, you said that they no longer have the medical collection? If this is true, and they are trying to collect from you on this.

This is a violation....thats all I am going to say...if I were you, I would have fun with the collection agency on this one. You know maybe call the State's Attorney General's Office, the Consumers Advocates Office, or the BBB.

    Remember get everything in writing.

    Good Luck

Get a receipt for payment, AND a letter on their letter-head saying you owe them NOTHING and you are paid in full.

DON'T TRASH EITHER FOR MANY YEARS, even if the DOCTOR'S OFFICE manages to delete it...

I would dispute it the day you pay, with the CRA...should be PAID/NEVER LATE...

COLLECTION AGENCIES DON'T LIKE TO BE TAKEN "OUT OF THE LOOP"...SO BE WARNED...IT MAY COME BACK ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT...FOR SPITE!!!

They may get 90% +/- of what they collect...so they will HATE YOU!!!

    Good luck.

Again, get everything IN WRITING from someone in the MD office about this agreement prior to paying a cent.

And I would make sure that whatever the MD office does to resolve this pulls the account back from the creditor and that you get yourself a copy of this in writing as well.
    Good Luck.
