The FCRA allows pre 1997 charge offs to stay on a credit report for 7 years from charge off. Newer charge offs are removed 7 years after the "first delinquency that lead to the charge off"... as much as a year earlier than the charge off date.
Good news for Californians- CA Code of Civ. Procedure sec. 1785 requires this ealier removal for ALL charge offs for CA residents.

About The Source Of Your Infoâ?¦

    Pat:
I donâ??t know where youâ??re getting your information, inasmuch as California Code of Civil Procedure §1781. to 1787., inclusive, were repealed in 1921 (Stats. 1921, c 111, § 8).

Also Civil Code §1785. was likewise withdrawn January 1, 1965 (Stats. 1963, c. 819, p. 1997, § 2). Perhaps you could clarify and/or be more specific as to the subsections or cites you are referring to?

    TIA,
    Anthony Villaseñor
