Be extremely careful when adding an extended warranty. The dealership can charge whatever they want to! The contract (in small writing) says a portion of your warranty cost will be retained by the dealer. I did some checking around and was given prices on a warranty from $1000 to $1900. These quotes are the same vehicle for same terms! You get a new car warranty when you buy the car that usually covers the car for 3 yrs. You can buy the extended warranty later;so, there is no rush to buy at the time you purchase the car (unless you get real good price on the warranty). Do your homework beforehand so you'll know how much an extended warranty should cost. Also, be careful in buying the warranty for a new or unknown company. Will they be around when you need to use the warranty? After shopping around I found a dealer that offered the GM Protection Plan Major Guard for $800 cheaper than the dealership where I bought the car!
Extended warranties are USUALLY a waste of money... If something goes wrong, it is usually in the "FIRST" warranty. The "EXTENDED" warranty doesn't start till the first one expires. The "EXTENDED" always has "THIS ISN'T COVERED"..."THAT ISN'T COVERED"
I know! I know! However, I'm unusually hard on cars and put miles on quick. I read the warranty and think its good in my case. Knowing what you said George is correct, I gave it a lot of thought. My new car is power everything and it's covered in the warranty. Also I did some checking and the cost to replace a transmission on this car is eye-popping. Being that I found a bumper-to-bumper warranty good for 100,000 miles for a little over $1000 I decided to go for it. It's with GM and they are going to let put $100 down and finance the remainder for 0%. Do you think I got a good deal?
