    I tried this website
www.searchsytems.net to see if a CA was licensed to operate in FL. It worked for me I scrolled down to where it says license, and selected collection agency.

By the way, the CA license expired 12/31/03. Any thoughts of what I should do? Or is it possible they just haven't updated the info yet?

CA contacted me after CRA verified a "not mine" letter

Hi NanaC! The link is bad in the original post for some reason, though the URL shows correctly. I got the same message you did, then ended up Googling it and hit the link that came up there.....no problem! Maybe just manually typing in the URL will work too. Good luck! NuB

Now I don't think that sounds like the NanaC that anyone of us hear at CreditNet knows or is getting to know. Quite the opposite I'd say! Thanks for all you do! NuB (And the link works!)

y'know NanaC I have been waiting for you to remind everyone to not only check out the Collection Agency's licensure, but the EMPLOYEE you are dealing with. in my state, the EMPLOYEE has to have a license in addition to the agency.

That's funny you said that because just this morning I was thinking about that when I looked up laws in MI...yes...Jenz is absolutely right...for instance, in MI, the manager must have a license as well...good point..thanks!

Just like insurance both the agency and sales rep have to be licensed. Same goes for manufactured homes and the auto business where both the dealer and the sales force have to be licensed.

What a win!!!! Went to website for CA licenses to check on CA who was reporting Medical CO. Well also on this site was licenses for doctors in Texas. After a search found the Doctor who sent me to CA. Get this his license is cancelled by the state and he is out of business. They better delete this now. Great site Check it not just for CA's but check and see if anyone who says you owe them is on the up and up.

But do you owe an illegal enterprise anything?
Can a debt to an illegal entity even be a legal debt?

Either I'm stupid of it's late and I'm tired but I could not find anything about collection agencies in TX on that site.

You're not stupid. The home page is set up a bit odd. I believe you must scroll down and you will see a list of the states individually. From there, click on Texas and scroll down to 'licenses', you should see Licenses-Collection Agencies. Something like that. I hope this helps you. It's there! NuB

OK, thanks. I feel better. I had done that and there was no licensing for debt collectors, collection agencies... etc. I guess no one's licensed :)

Good Morning MrTexas! You'll be happy to know that NanaC goes about the board posting contact information for Nina Weston in Texas. You ask her directly who is licensed and bonded and NanaC always says she will get back to you the same or next business day. The e-mail address is:

    nweston@sos.state.tx.us

I'm sorry... I don't know how to make "clickable" links! ;-) NuB
