My husband got a declination letter from AMEX Blue at work, which he never applied for. He called Amex, and is getting a copy of the original application they received so he can see if he can figure out who may have done this.

The app did have his correct name and SSN, but used his work address (which is a state agency) according to the AMEX rep.

First thing tomorrow morning we will contact the 3 CRAs to get fraud alerts put on all 3 bureaus, but is there anything else any of you who have been through this suggest?

I know, too, that we need to look at all inquiries in the past few weeks on the CRs.

We can't really file a police report, I don't think, since nothing was stolen or damaged, except his information--and we don't have any proof, except for the fact that he got a decline letter. We are thinking someone from his work applied, since they would have had to have access to his SSN and other information--and used his work address in hopes of intercepting the card in the mailroom.

Ironically, my husband has a previous bankruptcy and is rebuilding spotty credit, so he wasn't the best victim for someone wanting identity to steal!!

Thanks in advance for any info you all might have to share.
