Today my husband received a letter from each of the credit bureaus indicting that they have added a fraud alert to his credit file. Does anyone know why they took this action. He did not request that an alert be placed his credit file.
I don't believe a "fraud alert" can be placed on your file unless you request it yourself. If an actual fraud alert was placed and he didn't request it, I would check with the credit bureaus to find out who requested it and why.
