Ok, I guess you could say I was a typical college dummy who got credit cards that I couldn't afford 8 or so years ago. I've been working to fix the problems, but last week, I was slammed with some information that is setting me WAY back.

Last week, I received a wage garnishment paper from my online part-time job and freaked out. Upon further investigation, I discovered that I had a default judgement against me in 2011 for 2100 from Capital 1 in Ohio. The thing is, I have been living in North Carolina since 2007. I'm frreaking out of course, especially since I about to get married!

Research has said of course that I can file a motion to vacate the judgement. But, since I'm out of state I will need to pay an attorney to do so. Most attorneys I've talked to have told me their fees would surpass what I owe and it's just not worth it. The one attorney told me that he would do it, but he has never done something like this before.

After thinking, I'm trying to decide if it is with the 500+ bucks to file the paperwork. First I thought that it would give me a chance to remove the judgement and THEN try to negotiate a payment. BUT after thinking that if they decided to proceed and file again, and won, the judgement would start over and be on my report for an additional 7 years, instead of falling off in about 4 when i pay it.

Fortunately, they are attacking my secondary job that is used for extra funds. Should I just let them garnish and supplement payments when I can? Would they even consider negotiating (since it's a pt job, in all honesty they would get more money with payments than in garnishment.

I'm so lost because I would have definitely filed an answer had I known about a court date 3 years ago! This garnishment paper from my employer is the first information I am receiving.

What is the best thing to do :-(.
