This is a quetion that should also serve as a warning.

Just over a month ago, I pulled a credit report through Truelink, Inc's. freecreditreport.com. I've forgotten why, but there was something I was wanting to compare. I knew they had a 30 day free trial so there shouldn't have been a problem.

The next day I called to cancel. I called the customer service number (888) 749-0731 in the confirmation email and it kept going to a voicemail that indicated customer service hours were M-F 9-9 and noted some "best times to call" and then disconnected.

I've probably called 50 times since, at all hours and the result is always the same.

About a week into this, I emailed my request for cancellation. Exactly 30 days to the day, I emailed again advising them that if they charged my CC I would initiate a chargeback.

    They did.

Do I owe them any further contact before initiating the chargeback?

They had no physical address contact info on their regular website, but a google search turned up another site indicating they've been bought out by Lehman Bros. and there was a New York City corporate address in there and a technology and operations address in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Interestingly, that site has a different customer service number (800) 493-2392 that goes to the very same recording I've gotten all month.

Have I done enough to be justified in initiating the chargeback?

    Thanks much!

YES - You have done all you can. That's all your bank should ask you to do.

Their cancellation program is hidden on purpose.

Make your bank charge it back.

BTW - If you need a statement from a former freecreditreport.com participant who's been thru the same crap, let me know.

    :)
