Ignore the previous thread. We pulled 3-in-1 report on PrivacyGuard.com for my friend. He filed Chp.7 in June 2000 and has not started any accounts since then. It is difficult to understand some stuff on his credit report because they all show so much different information, his "Account Summary" screen is about a mile long because not all of the three bureaus line up with the same account numbers. He is interested in finding out how he can get an auto loan, and to just improve his credit asap. A friend of his in a local town approved him for a 12% loan on a 2 year car about 8 months after he filed bk, but he turned the loan. 2 weeks ago he approved for a recreational vehicle (motorcycle) for $10,000 but he wants to rebuild his credit and he kind of shaky and opening loans again, but he does want a solid car payment. He is interested in finding out how to do disputes and other things.
The first thing he should do is work out a budget, so he can be sure of making the payments. If he's feeling shaky, it's because he's afraid he can't/won't pay for some reason. Then, once he is sure the payments fit his budget, he should definitely get the loan, because it is essential to have some things showing a positive payment history. There's no way a person can rebuild their credit without using credit. He has to show that he can be responsible about paying. If he's interested in learning about disputing and cleaning up his report, get him to visit the board himself. He'll get hooked in no time.
I would go ahead and pull reports from each of the individual bureaus. Much easier to read when identifying a plan of action.
Ok, and where can we read to get started on trying to dispute items and improve his credit rating? Is there a newbie credit site like this?
Read the 5 posts at the top of the board for starters. I started this before I found the board and made some mistakes. Here's advice from a newbie so take it with a grain of salt or find the advice hidden among posts. Make sure all old/incorrect addresses and name variations are removed from all credit bureaus. Never send in copies of BK. Patients is a virtue- no more than 4 validations at a time. No more than 4 verifications from CRA's at a time. Good luck!
