I suggest you also file with the Better Business Bureau, your states AG, and Dept. of Commerce. It's good to file a complaint with the FTC, however, they will not act on your behalf, rather they take your complaint and wait until they have x amount of complaints against a specific company, and only then do they "get involved".
mindcrime can you please post the link for the dept. of commerce complain section. Will appreciate. Thanks
It depends on which state you're in, and/or which state the CA you're filing against is in. Usually, when you go to the AG's website, it will have a link or information about whether or not you can also file a complaint with the Dept. of Commerce. I *believe* the one that I used was in Minnesota, but this is just an example I'm giving (don't use them unless you're in MN or the CA is.). They were helpful, however they took more time than another regulatory agency took, and by time DOC got to sending my complaint to the CA, the CA had already caved. Here is a link which will provide you every AG's website in the country: http://www.naag.org/ag/full_ag_table.cfm
mindcrime I agree with the concurrent complaints to all 4 agencies. I hadn't thought about the Dept of Commerce. How do they figure in? On July 13 I filed complaints with the FTC, BBB and CA AG. So far the BBB has come through with 3 promised deletes from CAs. I'm also working another CA through the MN AG. Verification and validation through the CRAs and CAs aren't the only options. smog
The Dept. of Commerce (at least in Minnesota) happened to also assist consumers in my particular situation (attempting to get a CA respond for one, and secondly, attempting to get them to delete) in additional to the AG and BBB. I believe it was the AG's office that referred me their, or possibily there was a link from the AG's website to the DOC. Not sure exactly how they figure in, however, they, unlike the FTC, were willing to and did contact the CA (which in turn showed the CA I was serious) and would have (most likely anyway) gotten the CA to delete had the BBB and AG not stepped in first.
